Mar 1, 2023 | 9:26 AM

A central Alberta golfer is having quite the run stateside.

Brady McKinlay, who is from Lacombe and attends Utah Valley University, won his fourth straight title in February and was named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week.

A senior, McKinlay helped his team to a 20-shot triumph at the Southern Utah Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational from Feb. 10 to 12. The tournament was played at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.

McKinlay shot -9 for the one stroke victory which included a final round of six birdies and an eagle for a 65.

“It was such a special day,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran in a release. “We’ve been so close so many times. It’s great to finally get a team victory. Brady’s streak is just unheard of. It’s incredible what he has accomplished.”

With the win, he also becomes Utah Valley’s all-time leader in career wins.

“Breaking the record is very cool; obviously a goal, but something that seemed almost out of reach when I arrived here at UVU,’ McKinlay said in a statement to rdnewsNOW.

“I haven’t thought about the records much, but I’d love to break every single one of them. This year has been going great and we are getting into the heart of the season, so I’m really looking forward to keeping it going.”

McKinlay and his UVU teammates were competing at the Loyola Invitational, Feb. 26-28, at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.

Everyone on the team birdied their final hole to take home the team title. McKinlay shot a final round 5-under to move up 13 spots to 11th.

Utah Valley, McKinlay included, continue spring competition at the Bash at the Beach, March 13-14, at the Surf Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
