The average Walton is speaking of is 8.28 assists-per-set but just in the second semester alone, she is around nine per game. Wiens and the Queens will be off this weekend as they prepare and defend their championship from last year on February 23-25, 2023 in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Congratulations Dani on tying the record for most assists in a match and we will be cheering you and the Queens on in a couple of weeks!

Maddux Greves

Business Administration (5th year)

After another outstanding performance from the fifth-year setter, Maddux Greves is named the Kings Athlete of the Week. To cap off his final year in the ACAC, Greves put up 24 assists against the NAIT Ooks, whom he faced last year in the ACAC Championship final, and 28 helpers against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves. The Calgary native played in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre for the last time in his career on Saturday afternoon against the Wolves. Before the match, the Kings held a ceremony for the setter as he capped off an incredible career that stretched between two different conferences. Before coming to Red Deer, he played for the Trinity Western University Spartans, who compete in USports, and the SAIT Trojans. As he has done all year round, he led an effective offense that had 35 kills on Friday night and 38 on Saturday afternoon. The Business Administration student also had 13 total digs throughout the weekend.

Head Coach Aaron Schulha explains Greves will definitely be missed on the court in Red Deer and in the Kings locker room.

“His leadership and volleyball IQ are outstanding, not to mention his setting quality. He is one of the top setters in all of Canada. He has been a great ambassador for the program and we look forward to seeing what is next for him. Hopefully, it is after a championship or two with us. Maddux has a great volleyball mind and he is a pretty bright kid.”

Greves and the Kings will have the weekend off to prepare for the championships hosted by Keyano College on February 23-25. They too will look to defend their title from last year as they head to Fort McMurray as the number one seed in the South Division. Congratulations Maddux on an amazing career and we wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavours. Good luck in a couple of weeks as you look for another championship banner!

Heading into the final meet of the year before the championships on March 18-19, the Queens are sitting nicely in first place after a team effort in the Running Room Grand Prix #1 in January. The RDP women’s team finished the event with 76 points which places them in first place with 71 points. This is 25 points ahead of the SAIT Trojans, who are in second place.

For the men, it is a much tight race between first and second. The Kings sit in second place with 62 points which is just 11 points back of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
