Red Deer Kinsmen Dream Home Lottery extended for one month

The Red Deer Kinsmen 2022 Dream Home Lottery has been extended until the end of February.

Although the original deadline to buy tickets was on February 2, the new deadline is February 28, with a final draw date on March 16.

“While the lottery has been well supported by the Red Deer area, this final sales push is required to allow RDK [Red Deer Kinsmen] to give to the many groups who are annually supported and new initiatives around the area,” said Ken Waters, 2022-23 RDK President.

In the Timberlands area, the 1,847 sq. ft. home (388 Timberlands Dr) has a Modern Scandinavian design, naming it “The Viking”. Coming fully furnished, the house contains three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a den, a front office space, tall vaulted ceilings, an open staircase with a glass railing in the centre, and a wide backyard, among other customized details.

The dream home is valued at $810,000 and the 50/50 cash raffle currently sits at $267,100.

While loyalty and early bird tickets have already been drawn, current ticket holders also have the chance at winning one of over $35,000 worth of prizes including vacations, home renovations, electronics and gift cards.

Leonard Sisco, Lottery Chair, said that ever since the pandemic, the lottery has not been selling as many tickets as before. Last year, the Dream Home lottery was also extended.

“The whole idea with doing this lottery is we want to be able to give back to the community,” he said. “We have a lot of different organizations that we support on a regular, every year basis and we want to be able to keep that commitment up rather than draw away from it. There’s just too many kids, too many organizations, too many people that are reliant on this lottery to let it go without giving it a proper fight.”

While he expressed frustrations felt as lots of efforts have been put in yearly to build the home and put together the lottery, Sisco said he also worries financially for the organizations that they help support.

“If we’re seeing the cutbacks in our market, then their seeing it as well through some of the grants that they may have received before that are disappearing. There’s a lot of people out there hurting so we’re doing what we can to try and solve the hurt,” he said.

Sisco said that all the profits made stay within the community towards projects, groups, and organizations such as the Red Deer Christmas Bureau, the Mustard Seed, the Food Bank and more.

“[I want to] thank everybody for their support, for their patience of course. It’s not something that we wanted to do but it’s something we decided that we must do. We owe it to this community to be able to stand up for them and this is the only way that we’re able to do that right now,” he said.

Open houses will continue each Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. While tickets are only sold online, Sisco says that Kinsmen volunteers can help those interested so they can receive their tickets by email. Various packages are available for tickets and the raffle.

He also says representatives from Alair, the custom home builder, will be at the location from Monday to Friday for those looking for a more private visitation.
