One man dead in crash on Highway 1 near Chestermere

Chestermere and Strathmore RCMP Detachments along with the assistance of the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) and Collision Reconstructionist, have cleared from the scene at Hwy 1 and Range Road 282.

Their investigation is still on going at this time. The RCMP would like to thank motorists for their understanding during this lengthy disruption to traffic flow. The public’s patience was appreciated while multiple emergency personnel were on scene.

Both lanes of Highway 1 from Range Road 282 are open to flowing traffic.

UPDATE: Jan. 20, 10:05 a.m.

Strathmore RCMP advise that they are still on scene at the collision which occurred at 3 a.m.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist is on scene. The westbound lanes are still closed and are expected to be closed for another three hours. Please avoid the area.

As previously reported, one of the semi trucks was carrying a herbicide. Alberta Environment will be attending to clean this up.

An update will be sent as soon as it becomes available.

One man is dead following a motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 near Chestermere.

RCMP responded to the collision between a semi hauling herbicide and two other semi trucks parked on the shoulder of the road around 3 a.m. Friday.

Both lanes of Highway 1, westbound at Paradise Road (Range Road 282) are affected by this collision.

At this time RCMP, EMS and Fire are on scene. Volker Steven is present redirecting traffic for the next several hours.

Westbound traffic will be routed to the Chestermere exit for travel on Hwy 1A and 17th Avenue SE through Chestermere.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist and Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) are assisting Chestermere and Strathmore RCMP detachments with this investigation.
