Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics has announced the RDP Athletes of the Week.

1. Natalie Buttle

Hometown: Spruce Grove – Bachelor of Kinesiology (2nd year)

With two “player of the game” awards in as many games this past weekend, #94 Natalie Buttle was awarded the Queens Athlete of the Week. RDP officials say the Spruce Grove-native was huge for her team against the SAIT Trojans as she picked up the winning goal on Friday night’s 3-1 victory. She would then add another goal and an assist in a 6-0 blowout victory over the Trojans.

Buttle, in her second year in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, sits with four points on the year with two goals and two assists. The institution says her goal on Friday night was quite impressive as she was able to position herself in front of the net and get her stick on a point shot from her teammate Kaedence Mollin to deflect it past the SAIT goaltender.

“Congratulations and keep up the hard work Natalie,” said RDP Athletics in a release.

2. Noah Carlson

Hometown: Sylvan Lake – Open Studies (3rd year)

In his debut weekend repping the Kings jersey, six-foot-six Noah Carlson was awarded the Kings Athlete of the Week. Traditionally an outside-hitter, Carlson started his weekend in the middle position against the Concordia University Thunder where he finished with five kills on the night. However, he later moved to the right-side against The Kings University Eagles on Saturday night where he made his presence known and established himself as an athlete to watch out for the upcoming matches. He finished the night with an outstanding 20 kills to help his team to a 3-1 match victory over the Eagles enroute to being named the player of the game.

Head Coach Aaron Schulha said adding Noah Carlson this semester was just going to make his team even better and more competitive but also having a bigger net presence.

“He is a threat coming out of the back row as he has a very high reach,” he said.

Schulha said that with this addition, he has a good problem to have in that he has multiple weapons and each player will now have to work even harder to earn that starting position.

“Congratulations Noah and keep on killing that ball,” said RDP officials in a statement.
