Burman University offers micro-credential programs to support small businesses in Alberta

Jan 10, 2023 | 4:43 PM

Burman University has announced it is now offering micro-credential programs geared towards small business owners, employees, and students.

University officials say those who enroll in the program can gain in-demand skills, applicable to and needed by small business operations, in an affordable and time-efficient way.

“The micro-credential courses in Entrepreneurship and Finance will give individuals in the workforce the tools they need to succeed and, in turn, benefit the Alberta economy,” said Dr. Louicius Michel, Chair and Professor of Business at Burman University.

The institution says those who can benefit from the programs include:

  • Unemployed or under-employed Albertans looking to make a career change
  • Small businesses that want to train their employees with a focused program that provides them with business skills
  • Small business owners that want to level up their knowledge to build a successful business
  • Students looking to add targeted skills to their resumes to attract future employers

They say the program has been made possible due to funding by the provincial government to give small businesses and Albertans the opportunity to gain the knowledge they need to advance without having to enroll in a full post-secondary program.

Each course consists of 24 instructional hours over eight weeks and is offered online. Courses are scheduled to run from February – March 2023 and May – June 2023.

Those interested can visit the Small Business Centre website at yoursmallbusiness.ca to sign up for a free information session with a Burman University team member, or register directly for Entrepreneurship or Finance courses.

Burman University is an independent, publicly funded university in Lacombe, accredited by the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA), offering bachelor’s degree programs approved by the Campus Alberta Quality Council (CAQC).
