Town of Blackfalds Chief Administrative Officer to retire in 2023

The Town of Blackfalds’ Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Myron Thompson has announced he will retire in March of 2023 to spend more time with his family and friends, travel, and participate in consulting work.

Thompson has been with the Town for nine years, making his time in municipal government a total of 33 years. In that time, he says he has overseen many projects but some stand out more than others.

“There are so many accomplishments achieved over my term as CAO, all thanks to the efforts of many. One that stands out, mainly to the complexity, is the Gregg Street/Womacks Road realignment, Eagle Builders Centre parking lot, and Border Paving Plaza,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed my 33-year career in municipal government, but by far, my nine years with the Town of Blackfalds has been the highlight,” said Thompson. “Mainly because of the great staff, the growth of the community, and overall progressiveness of the organization.”

Mayor Jamie Hoover said he feels the Town has been very fortunate in having Thompson as CAO and that his efforts have paved the way for an easy transition with a successor.

“The Town of Blackfalds has been fortunate to have Myron Thompson culminate his long municipal career in his role as our CAO for nine years, and his contribution and impact during a milestone period in this town’s history,” he said. “He is leaving his staff and senior administration in a strong position for success after he begins his well-deserved retirement from his role. On behalf of this council, I wish Myron and [his wife] Cheryl all the best in this next chapter.”

While Thompson says he looks forward to his retirement, he says he will take many memories of the Town of Blackfalds.

“I’ve seen tremendous positive change and progress in the community over the term that I have been CAO and have been very proud to be part of it,” he said.

Town officials said they wanted to thank Thompson for his many years of dedication and leadership and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
