Dec 20, 2022 | 10:30 AM

Sentencing has now taken place for all three people charged in a series of incidents in Penhold last year that saw RCMP seize nearly two dozen guns, drugs and other items.

Amber Lee Parfitt, 38, of Olds, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court last week to 365 days in jail after being convicted under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act on one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was also given 18 months of probation and a 10-year firearms prohibition.

A second co-accused, Jordan Kyle Glasgow, 22, of Penhold, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court on Oct. 20, 2022, to 540 days in jail after being convicted on counts of possess firearm weapon in vehicle, possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm, and fail to comply with a release order. He was also given 18 months of probation, and a firearm prohibition of 20 years.

A third person charged, Casey Ronald Laprise, 34, of no fixed address, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court on June 14, 2022. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail after being convicted on two counts of contravened regulation and one count of possession of property over $5000. He was also sentenced to 34 months to be served consecutively after also being convicted on two counts of possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm. In addition, Laprise was also given a 10-year firearms prohibition.

The trio were previously scheduled for trial in Red Deer provincial court from Dec. 13-16, 2022.

RCMP say it was about 5 a.m. on Nov. 30, 2021, when Innisfail detachment members observed a person known to them allegedly violate his court-imposed conditions by leaving his home in Penhold, and leave in a vehicle.

With assistance from Blackfalds detachment, a traffic stop was conducted on Hwy 2A leaving Penhold.

Three occupants in the vehicle were located allegedly in possession of two firearms. The vehicle and guns were seized, and the occupants, two males and one female, were arrested, police say.

Search warrants were then executed on the Penhold home, as well as the vehicle, with assistance provided by the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (SACRU), Forensic Identification Section (FIS), and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), along with Blackfalds and Innisfail ITU.

Mounties say a total of 21 firearms, prohibited and non-restricted, were seized, along with silver coins, collectable currency, and suspected meth and drug paraphernalia.

Innisfail RCMP believe the firearms seized were related to a previous B&E in Innisfail.
