Holiday Tips

A reminder from Canada Post – Delivering your parcels safely this holiday season

Dec 8, 2022 | 12:16 PM

Canada Post in Red Deer is sharing some tips with local residents on how to ensure the safe delivery of their mail and holiday parcels this season.

During the pandemic, Canada Post says Canadians became much more comfortable shopping online and their research shows that this trend will continue for the 2022 holiday season. During this time of year, Canada Post officials say their delivery agents are out more often delivering holiday cards, letters and parcels to Canadians.

Delivering your mail safely

While Canada Post says its delivery agents in Red Deer are doing their best to deliver through difficult weather conditions, winter elements pose a safety risk to their employees – and others.

“That is why we’re reminding homeowners to help us deliver letters and parcels safely by keeping a clear and safe path to their home. With everyone’s support, we can help avoid an injury that can happen in just seconds,” reads a statement from Canada Post.

“We’re asking Red Deer residents and businesses to remember these tips to help keep our people safe:”

  • Remove snow and ice from your walkways, driveway, and around your mailbox.
  • De-ice your stairs, entrance, and the path to your mailbox, using sand or salt.
  • Keep your stairs, handrails, and mailbox free of obstructions, and in good repair.

Getting your mail and parcels for the Holidays

“Here are some tips for customers and their mail and parcel delivery, be it at the post office, their door, a community mailbox, rural mailbox, building mailbox panels, etc.:”

  • Collect your mail daily.
  • If you have a package to pick up at the post office or a parcel locker, we ask that you do so in a timely manner to allow us to add more product to serve more customers.
  • If you plan to be away, use Canada Post’s Hold Mail Service to suspend delivery until you return.
  • To keep those gifts a surprise, use Canada Post’s FlexDelivery service, which allows consumers to have their purchase delivered directly to any post office of their choice.
  • Track your items online or on the Canada Post mobile app.
  • We offer delivery preferences, allowing customers to choose a safe location outside of their home, other than their front porch, such as the side door, garage, etc., provided our letter carriers can access it safely.
  • When ordering online, customers should make sure to read the retailer’s shipping details and choose the best option that works for them.
