Red Deer County has new bylaw for use of off-highway vehicles

Dec 7, 2022 | 11:18 AM

Red Deer County council has unanimously passed final readings of a bylaw regulating use of off-highway vehicles (OHVs).

First reading was given earlier in November.

The bylaw’s definition of an OHV includes any vehicle which has low pressure tires, two-wheel vehicles, amphibious machines for land and water use, all-terrain vehicles, miniature motor vehicles, certain snow vehicles, minibikes, and any other means of motorized transportation built for cross country travel on any natural terrain.

A now previous bylaw prohibited the use of OHVs on highways within the County’s control, known as county road right-of-ways, for the general public, with exemptions for County employees in the course of their duties and Peace Officers for enforcement purposes.
