Gord Bamford performs in Eckville this weekend in support of recreation project

Dec 1, 2022 | 4:59 PM

Central Alberta country music star Gord Bamford is headlining a concert this weekend in support of a local recreation project in Eckville.

Bamford, with special guest Duane Steele, play the Eckville Community Hall (5305 – 5315 52 Street, Eckville) this Saturday, Dec. 3. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7.

The show is part of Bamford’s Kick COVID in the A** Tour, and is for all ages.

Proceeds will benefit the Eckville Recreation Board (ERB), which is looking to raise around $300,000 for a new outdoor rec facility which would serve as a hockey/skating rink in the winter, and pickleball/basketball courts in the warmer months.

“The Eckville Recreation Board is a not-for-profit organization that strives to offer opportunities, programming, activities and events that develop and encourage community connection for all ages,” says Alisa New, board chair.

“The ERB is looking to the near future with plans for an outdoor multipurpose facility. The Recreation Board has been looking at this project for a number of years, and decided now, with an increased need for unstructured outdoor recreation, is the perfect time to move ahead.”

New says the facility in Eckville — a community of 1,014* — would benefit a number of surrounding communities such as Benalto, Gimlet and Condor, which also don’t have multipurpose facilities of their own.
