Rebels demolish Raiders in 6-1 home triumph

Nov 26, 2022 | 9:36 PM

Saturday night saw a big bounceback effort from the Red Deer Rebels as they pounced on the visiting Prince Albert Raiders early and often.

The Rebels were coming off a 3-2 home shootout loss to Medicine Hat on Friday, and were well served to win considering they play a third game in three days on Sunday. Red Deer and PA also played Oct. 22, the Rebels winning 3-0.

The final score against the Raiders on this occasion was 6-1.

As alluded to, the first period was big for the Rebels.

Kai Uchacz scored his team-leading 18th, with Kalan Lind and Jayden Grubbe assisting, at 10:42 and on the power play.

Jace Isley scored his 14th at 13:59, Ollie Josephson and Christoffer Sedoff getting helpers.

To close out the frame, Frantisek Formanek notched his 5th, Talon Brigley aiding, at 18:07.

Netminder Rhett Stoesser and his mates were up 3-0 after one period of play.

In the second, Red Deer continued filling the net.

Arjun Bawa, son of former NHLer Robin Bawa, scored his first career WHL goal, Jace Weir and Uchacz assisting, at 16:05.

Making it 5-0 on the power play was Lind, who scored his 5th with help from Grubbe and Uchacz again, at 19:46.

Just 42 seconds into the third, Jhett Larson made it 6-0 home team, Dwayne Jean Jr. and Carson Birnie getting apples.

Unfortunately for Stoesser, the shutout bid was dashed at 10:54 when Red Deer native Keaton Sorenson scored on the power play for PA.

And that was all she wrote.

Rhett Stoesser stopped 20 of 21 shots in the win for Red Deer, improving to 6-2-0-0
