It was a tough weekend for the Queens Basketball team. They would fall two straight in two very close games against a nationally ranked Huskies (67-57) team and the Rustlers (64-54), who were last year’s ACAC Champions. In both games, the Queens struggled to find their scoring form when they needed it the most.

Forward Lauren France (Bachelor of Arts – Psychology) was named the player of the game on Friday night and guard Keanna Richards (Bachelor of Science Biological Science) was the Queens player of the game against Lakeland College.

Keyano College Huskies (6-0) vs Kings (2-4)

Lakeland College Rustlers (3-3) vs Kings (2-4)

• Saturday, November 19 | 8 pm at Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Kings Basketball team would split their weekend against two North Division teams. They would drop their Friday contest 105-80 to an undefeated Huskies squad but would follow it up with a 93-78 win against the Rustlers.

Post Jose Mauro was named the player of the game on Friday night and Bernardo Moller was named the Kings player of the game in the win on Saturday night. Mauro had 22 points and eight rebounds against the Huskies. Moller finished his night with 22 points, 18 of which came from three-pointers. Both these student-athletes are in the Academic Upgrading program.

Hockey

Lakeland College Rustlers (1-1-1) vs Queens (3-1)

• Saturday, November 19 | 7 pm in Lloydminster

It was a tough Friday night for the Queens Hockey team as they could not generate any offence which led to an 1-0 double overtime defeat against the Rustlers. But they would follow it up with a 2-1 regulation win on Saturday night in Lloydminster.

Goaltender Tanya Disotell-Dunsmore (Bachelor of Science Pre-Opt) was named player of the game on Friday with a 19 save performance. On Saturday, the Queens found their scoring form and would win 2-1 away from their own barn. Forward Jailyn Bablitz (Bachelor of Education Elementary) scored the winning goal for the Queens enroute to being named the player of the game.

NAIT Ooks (5-2-1) vs Kings (6-1-1)

• Friday, November 18 | 7 pm in Edmonton

• Saturday, November 19 | 7 pm at Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Kings played very well for 56 minutes on Friday night, but it was those final four minutes that cost them a win against the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton. They would give up three unanswered goals in the last few minutes and would lose 5-4.

Forward Holden Knights was named the player of the game for his one goal performance. But the Kings would get some revenge on Saturday night with the help from Jacob Kendall who scored four of his team’s six goals enroute to a 6-4 victory over the Ooks.

With this goal performance, Kendall was named player of the game. Both of these award recipients are in the Bachelor of Education program at RDP.

Volleyball

Queens (4-1) vs Keyano College Huskies (4-2)

• Friday, November 18 | 6 pm in Fort McMurray

Queens (4-1) vs Lakeland College Rustlers (8-0)

• Saturday, November 19 | 6 pm in Lloydminster

The Queens would fall to 4-3 after this tough road trip up north. They would get swept by the Huskies on Friday night and would drop three straight again to a nationally ranked Rustlers team on Saturday. This is definitely something that does not happen in Queens Volleyball too often, but they will look to regroup next week for a two-match series at home against a Lethbridge College Kodiaks team, who has jumped out to a great start to the season.

Setter Danielle Wiens was named player of the game with a season-low seven assists against the Huskies. Against the Rustlers, it was libero Frankie Santini who was named the player of the game for the Queens, who had five digs and two assists.

Kings (4-1) vs Keyano College Huskies (4-2)

• Friday, November 18 | 8 pm in Fort McMurray

Kings (4-1) vs Lakeland College Rustlers (3-5)

• Saturday, November 19 | 8 pm in Lloydminster

The Kings came back to Red Deer with a 6-1 record, but it was not easy. After taking the first set against the Huskies, they would drop the next two, but the Kings battled back to take the final two games of the match in a championship-like game.

On Saturday night, RDP would drop the first set but would come back to take sets two through four to win the match 3-1. Both these matches the Kings had to play without their All-Conference and veteran setter Maddux Greves. JJ Graham was named the player of the game against the Huskies with a nine-dig performance.

Greves and Graham are both student-athletes in the Business Administration General Management program. Last years, Rookie of the Year Brett Lower (Bachelor of Science Nursing) was named the player of the game on Saturday night with an impressive 23 kills and two aces.
