RDP Athletics announces Athletes of the Week

Nov 21, 2022 | 3:09 PM

Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics has announced the Fas Gas RDP Athletes of the Week.

1. Madison Fox

Hometown: Maple Ridge, BC – Bachelor of Science Nursing (3rd year)

Goaltender Madison Fox has played in two games so far this season and has been a force to be reckoned with in the net for the Queens. In her first game this season, she stopped 17 of 19 shots enroute to her first victory.

A couple weeks later she topped that with an impressive .952 save-percentage that helped her team secure a 2-1 victory against the Lakeland Rustlers.

But what was most impressive was she was able to stay on her game with only facing eight shots in the first two periods. The Queens were badly outshot by the Rustlers, but Fox stood on her head and steered aside 13 of 14 shots in the third period. This was a big third period for Fox as it gave the Queens a win to finish off the first semester after dropping a double-overtime loss to Lakeland the night before.

At the end of the first half, she has a 1.50 goals-against-average, a .925 save-percentage and a 2-0 record.

2. Jacob Kendall

Hometown: Camrose, AB – Bachelor of Education Elementary (2nd year)

Forward Jacob Kendall has had quite the impressive season so far. This is his second athlete of the week honour in the last two weeks.

But it was quite incredible what he did on Saturday night at home in front of the Red Deer fans. He put the weight of the team on his shoulders and scored four goals enroute to a 6-4 victory over their rivals the NAIT Ooks. He was held off the scoresheet in Friday night’s 5-4 loss in Edmonton against the Ooks but definitely made up for it the following day with his five-point performance.

The Camrose-native sits in second place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) in points with 14 and is sitting nicely in first place in goals with 10. He has already surpassed his collegiate career high of nine goals from last year.

Definitely keep an eye out for him this weekend as they take on the Concordia University Thunder at 7 pm in Red Deer on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022.
