RDP curling ready for another year, Kings looking to defend gold
The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Curling program are ready to slide on pebble and dust off their brooms for the upcoming 2022-2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) curling season.
It was a successful season for both the Kings and Queens. The men were able to win the gold with a 6-2 victory over the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings but were not able to represent the ACAC at nationals as Curling Canada was forced to call off the championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Queens had an amazing year leading up to the championship match against the Vikings but would fall 7-4 after a draw from Augustana’s skip landed on the button which meant a silver medal for the team.
Before the championships, the Queens were handed quite a few honours and awards. Skip Hollie Vincent was named Female Curler of the Year and Third Kaylee Raniseth was named Women’s Co-Rookie of the Year. Raniseth, Vincent and second Nicole Homan were named to the ACAC All-Conference team.
