Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics is proud to announce the Fas Gas RDP Athletes of the Week.

1. Jenica Swartz – Hometown: Lacombe, AB, Bachelor of Science Pre-Med (2nd year)

Jenica Swartz was a busy student-athlete this week. She would fly off to Quebec for nationals with the Queens Soccer team earlier this week, where she played in two of the four matches.

She would score one of the two goals for Red Deer Polytechnic before making a trip back out west to join the Queens CrossCountry team in Medicine Hat for their Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships. She placed in fourth with a time of 23:24 enroute to a CCAA All-Canadian award. Earlier on in her season, she was able to win first through third in the Grand Prix’s and would finish off the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season with a bronze medal in Edmonton. The Lacombenative received an ACAC All-Conference award as well.

For her soccer season, she won gold at the ACAC Championship in Lethbridge and finished her year off with nine goals and one assist in conference action. She will look forward to the next semester as she participates in the Indoor Track Grand Prix’s starting on January 21.

2. Eduardo Crespo – Hometown: Mococa, Sao Paulo, Brazil Academic Upgrading (2nd year)

Eduardo Crespo is definitely not unfamiliar to being named an RDP Athletics Fas Gas Athlete of the Week as this is his second award in a matter of weeks.

The Brazilian-forward had a phenomenal game against The Kings University Eagles in the Kings only match of the weekend. In his 27 minutes on the court, he put up 29 points, three steals, and six rebounds which were all defensive rebounds.

Head Coach Darren Graham spoke very highly of him at the start of the season and wants to keep him in the game whenever possible. He is described as a big man down low, but he also can lead the offence with his pointguard capabilities. Crespo is currently averaging 14.2 points per game as well as 4.4 rebounds per game.

The Kings Basketball team will be in action this weekend with both games at home against the Keyano College Huskies and the Lakeland College Rustlers.
