Remembrance Day 2022 ceremonies in central Alberta this Friday

No matter where you are living in central Alberta, there are ceremonies taking place across the region for this year’s Remembrance Day.

On Friday, November 11, the Red Deer Legion will be hosting a ceremony at the Servus Arena (4D 4725 43 St) at 10:30 a.m.

In Sylvan Lake, the town and Legion will be hosting a ceremony at the Multi-Campus (2 Falcon Ridge Dr) at 10:30 a.m.

“We feel it’s important to celebrate and honour those who fought, and continue to fight, for the freedoms we enjoy every day,” the Town said on their website.

In Rocky Mountain House, the Legion will be hosting a service at the Lou Soppit Community Centre (4733 54 Ave) at 10:40 a.m. with lunch to follow at the Legion’s Veterans Hall (4911 49 St) at 12 p.m. A virtual service will be available for those who cannot attend, live streamed on their Facebook page. Live music will be performed by Joe Matallo.

At the Eckville Royal Canadian Legion #156 will be hosting a service at the Eckville Community Hall (5305 5315 52 St) at 10:45 a.m. followed by a fellowship.

In Blackfalds, an indoor service will be taking place at the Abbey Centre (4500 Womacks) from 10:45 a.m. – 12 p.m., with pre-seating beginning at 10:25 a.m. A brief outdoor ceremony will also be held at the Cenotaph to follow.

In Innisfail, the Legion will be hosting an outdoor ceremony at the Cenotaph starting at 10:30 a.m. Legion members and invited adult guests will be welcomed in the Club Room following the ceremony. The public, including children, can visit the legion from 1 – 7 p.m. for some live music.

In Lacombe, the Legion (5138 49 St, upstairs the Byron Greff Hall) will be hosting a community breakfast from 8 – 10 a.m. with pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs for all members of the public by donation. A service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (5214 50 Ave).

In Ponoka, the Legion will be starting their celebration with a parade from ATCO gas (4213 Hwy 2A) at 10:15 a.m. to the Cenotaph. A service will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Legion Auditorium (3911 AB-2A) and will be live streamed on their Facebook page.
