Trial dates set for man charged in local drug bust

Nov 9, 2022 | 4:09 PM

Trial dates have been set for one of two men charged in a local drug bust last winter.

Erick Becker, 33, of Red Deer, is scheduled for trial in Calgary provincial court from Oct. 16-17, 2023.

Becker was charged with drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and breach of a release order in the January 26, 2022 incident.

That’s when members of ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team) executed a search warrant at a Red Deer home in Vanier Woods. The organization says the search capped off a three-month investigation with the assistance of Red Deer RCMP.

The search warrant is alleged to have turned up the following:

  • Loaded shotgun;
  • 414 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 174 suspected fentanyl pills;
  • 28 grams of cocaine;
  • $4,450 cash

According to ALERT, the drugs seized had an estimated street value of $25,000, while the pills were submitted for further analysis.

A second man, Randi Walter St. Germain, 41, of Red Deer, was also charged and will see if his case has enough evidence to go to trial on March 10, 2023, during a preliminary hearing in Red Deer provincial court.

St. Germain was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, breach of a firearms prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded firearm.
