Spruce View Community Outdoor Rink now completed

Oct 27, 2022 | 2:19 PM

Officials with Red Deer County have announced that the Hamlet of Spruce View has a new outdoor rink thanks to the efforts of volunteers and local community.

The Spruce View & District Agricultural Society in partnership with Red Deer County Community Services, Whitecap Resources Inc. and Ebbesen Sand & Gravel has completed work on a new amenity for area residents.

Officials say groundwork was completed to provide a flat surface to flood the ice, while the boards were built and installed by local volunteers with the support of Whitecap Resources Inc. Additional support for construction of the boards came from Central Alberta Co-op and Burnt Lake Gas Co-op.

When winter weather arrives, County officials say the ice will be installed and maintained by the Spruce View & District Agricultural Society.

Red Deer County Division 5 Councilor, Brent Ramsay expressed that “local volunteers play a huge role in helping support opportunities in Spruce View and across the County. We are so fortunate to have a community where people and local businesses offer their time, energy and resources to complete projects like the outdoor community rink.”

Officials say Red Deer County Community Services staff are planning an event to help residents celebrate the new rink and to welcome winter recreational activities. Residents are encouraged to watch for further details.
