Councillor Shepherd takes on second term as Lacombe County reeve

Lacombe County council swore in Reeve Barb Shepherd for a second term this week.

Shepherd is also the councillor for Division 3, which primarily includes areas to the north and east of Blackfalds.

“It has been my honour to serve as Lacombe County Reeve over the past year to lead Lacombe County forward alongside a group of dedicated councillors representing our residents and their needs,” said Reeve Shepherd.

“I thank my fellow councillors for placing their trust and confidence in electing me. With a provincial election looming within the next few months and the current rate of inflation, there will be challenges to deal with – together. Council will stay focused on the financial demands these challenges will bring, and respond to them in a responsible, thoughtful manner.”

Remaining on as deputy reeve is Division 1 Councillor John Ireland — also in a second term. Deputy reeves have two-year terms unlike the one-year term for reeves.

“Reeve Shepherd has done an amazing job representing Lacombe County as our Chief Elected Official over the past year,” says Tim Timmons, County Manager. “We look forward to her continued steadfast leadership during the upcoming year.”

Shepherd was born and raised in southwest Saskatchewan and moved to central Alberta in 1984. She was first elected to council in 2013 following 40 years in banking.

She is a former member of the United Way of Central Alberta Board of Directors, and currently sits on the boards for Ellis Bird Farm and the Burman University School of Business.

She is an active representative for Lacombe County on the Lacombe Regional Waste Services Commission Board, Blackfalds Recreation and Parks Board, ALUS Community Advisory Panel, and Red Deer/Lacombe Rural Crime Watch.
