Alberta’s influenza immunization campaign begins Monday

Oct 17, 2022 | 11:03 AM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has announced that the province’s influenza immunization campaign begins on Monday, offering a free vaccine to all Albertans six months of age and older.

Officials confirm that also starting Oct. 17, COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters, may be offered to individuals that are eligible with each influenza vaccine appointment booked.

AHS says they will offer vaccines through public health clinics focusing on:

  • Children six months of age to under five years of age and their family and household members
  • Individuals who do not have a provincial health care number
  • Individuals who live in a community where there are no other immunizing health care providers
  • Individuals with booked appointments for other immunizations.

Albertans can also get immunized at:

  • Local pharmacies; available for Albertans five years of age and older.
  • Doctor’s offices: some doctors are offering flu shots, AHS states.

Residents are being advised to check with their local pharmacy and doctor’s office to confirm vaccine availability.

Officials state a separate appointment is not necessary for a COVID-19 vaccine and are encouraging those interested to speak to their immunizer on COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and availability. They state vaccine brands will vary by location.
