The latest Fas Gas RDP Athletics Athletes of the Week are Sein Furuyama and Grant Johnson.

Sein Furuyama – Queens Soccer
Hometown – Kobe, Japan
Academic Upgrading (1st year)

First-year forward Sein Furuyama kept scoring this past weekend with six goals, giving her a total of 25 on the year in her rookie campaign. She is now two goals away from breaking the single season goal scoring record in Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) Women’s Soccer.

It didn’t take long for the Academic Upgrading student to score her first of the match on October 7 against the Ambrose University Lions with a goal in the second minute. She completed the hat trick before the whistle blew at the end of the first half and added three more goals in the second half to finish off a 16-0 victory against the Lions. Against the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings, Furuyama was kept off the scoresheet, however, she still contributed to the offence with three shots on goal in the Queens’ 7-0 victory on October 8.

Grant Johnson – Kings Soccer
Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta
Legal Assistant (1st year)

Rookie forward Grant Johnson continues to score for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer program. This past week, Johnson and the Kings played the Ambrose Lions under the lights at 8 pm in Calgary. The Legal Assistant student opened the scoring three minutes into the match. It was the lone goal in the first half. Johnson helped the Kings to secure a 4-1 win and another three points in the standings. He added two more tallies in the second half. He will be looking to continue his scoring ways when the Kings take on the Lethbridge College Kodiaks this weekend. The Kodiaks are tied with the Kings for second spot in the South Division of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) with 12 points.
