Now playing at Cineplex Red Deer: Father of Nations.

An official selection for this year’s Calgary International Film Festival (Sept. 22-Oct. 2), Father of Nations is the first feature film from Calgary-based production company Thousand Year Films.

The film finished as a top 10 in the festival’s Top 10 Narrative Features, and was nominated for Best Alberta Feature Film.

It’s now playing for a week, starting Oct. 7, at Galaxy Cinemas in Red Deer, as well as in Edmonton, Medicine Hat, and Calgary.

“After suffering a global, catastrophic event; the world is on the verge of extinction. Attempts to engineer humanity have dulled its sanctity, choking out a new life. While clinging to their last hope, a group of survivors wander the wasteland, confronted by a dying world that can no longer sustain them,” a release states. “Some believe that their final hope to rebuild waits for them, that it is their duty to continue; while others believe that the last chapter has already been written.”

Father of Nations has a full Alberta cast and crew, and was shot around Alberta.

The film stars Kyra Macpherson (Bright Hill Road, Hudson on CBC, Red Letter Day), Griffin Cork (Abracadavers, Heartland, The Black Donnellys), and Reamonn Joshee (Billy The Kid, Guilty Party, Wynonna Earp).

It is directed by Aleisha Anderson, Thousand Years co-founder.
