Oct. 15: free activities

Red Deerians invited to celebrate win as “Canada’s Most Active Community” at Collicutt Centre

Oct 6, 2022 | 10:14 AM

There’s going to be a party for Red Deerians in celebration of their winning title as the “Most Active Community in Canada”.

On Saturday, October 15 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m., citizens can enjoy free swimming, skating and activities in the Field House like badminton, pickleball and basketball at the Collicutt Centre (3031 30 Ave).

In June, residents and community organizations participated in the Community Better ParticipACTION Challenge by logging their physical activity on the non-profit’s app or website, with the overarching goal of strengthening community connection. It was announced the following month that the city was crowned the nation’s winner, earning the municipality $100,000 to be used for supporting physical activity opportunities in the community.

Over 700 community members and 35 community organizations showed a total of 153,010 people participating in organized community events, she stated.

As recognition and to thank residents for their efforts, the city is welcoming all Red Deerians to celebrate the hard-earned win. Apart from the free activities, Mayor Ken Johnston will start with a welcome address from 12:00 – 12:15 p.m., and community organizations will also be present to showcase their services in the Centre.
