The City of Lacombe is funding an accessible fishing dock, to be located at Len Thompson Pond.

Already home to the World’s Largest Fishing Lure, the pond will see the Lacombe Fish and Game Association (LFGA) construct a fully accessible, pedestrian-friendly dock starting in Feb. 2023.

The City is officially kicking in $75,000.

The province is also contributing $80,000, with Team Jigger pitching in $15,000, Len Thompson Fishing Lures another $15,000, and the LFGA itself raising $50,000 for the project. Lacombe County is also giving $75,000 for a grand total of $310,000.

“Council is thrilled to support the further development of Len Thompson Pond,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “This dock will further enhance Lacombe’s status as a go-to destination for urban fishing and outdoor recreation.”

The City believes the project will also lower maintenance and enhance safety at the pond.

The target completion date is next June.

The municipal dollars come from The City of Lacombe’s Community Builder Partnership Grant, which has also funded basketball courts for the Lacombe Athletic Park Association, a permanent facility for the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre Foundation, and archive/collections storage for the Lacombe & District Historical Society.
