Red Deer Polytechnic Athletes of the Week

A new season of RDP Athletics is upon us, and with it comes new athletes of the week.

Find them here weekly, including this week with Estel Quinteros of the Queens soccer team and Daniel Szucs of Kings cross country.

Estel Quinteros – Queens Soccer
Hometown – Edmonton, Alberta
Bachelor of Science Nursing (2nd year)

Estel Quinteros had an outstanding weekend on the pitch for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team. The second-year defender from Edmonton contributed in all facets of the Queens’ 16-0 home victory over the Ambrose University Lions on Saturday. Offensively, Quinteros took four shots, scoring three times and adding one assist. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student was also a key member of the Queens’ defence which played sound positionally and didn’t allow a shot on goal. For her hard working effort and valuable contributions, Quinteros was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Soccer teams will play a two-game set at home this weekend. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the games in support of the Red Deer Food Bank. Individuals who donate food will be entered into a draw for prizes. There is no charge to attend the soccer games at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Daniel Szucs – Kings Cross Country Running
Hometown – Lacombe, Alberta
Bachelor of Business Administration General Management (4th year)

Veteran Daniel Szucs, a Bachelor of Business Administration General Management student, was a leader for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Cross Country Running team at Running Room Grand Prix #2 in Calgary this past Saturday. Individually, Szucs (27:23) placed fourth among Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) male runners over 8 km. The fourth-year’s strong effort helped the RDP Kings earn first place in their second competition of the season.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams will look to defend their top placements at Running Room Grand Prix #3 on Saturday, October 1 in Edmonton. The ACAC Cross Country Running Championships will take place on October 29.
