In Support of Local Seniors

The Grand Parade set for Red Deer September 17th

Sep 16, 2022 | 12:17 PM

Central Albertans are being encouraged to take part in a special parade aimed at supporting local seniors.

The Grand Parade on Saturday, September 17, 2022, is in support of Bridges Community Living and The Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre.

Bridges Community Living helps low income seniors aged 55+ in Red Deer move into subsidized, safe, comfortable, affordable living spaces that they can call home. Bridges Community Living currently has 600+ seniors that call their buildings home. Officials say there are three different programs for the residents to choose from – Lodge, Self-Contained, and Affordable.

The Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre is described as a vibrant hub for seniors to meet, build community and enjoy the company and support of their peers. Since 1977, the centre has provided programs, activities, information, resources, and outreach for older adults, their families, and caregivers.

While several teams have registered for this first-time event, more teams and individuals are still welcome to join in and help raise funds for this 2.5 or 5 km walk. Red Deer is one of 40+ communities across Canada participating in this event.

Registration for the event can be done online at thegrandparade.org (https://thegrandparade.org/home) or for those who do not have a computer, a paper registration sheet is available. Call the Fund Development Office at 403-343-1077 ext. 113 for a paper registration form to be delivered.

Please note, you can walk and register as an individual if you are not part of a team.

The Grand Parade is a 2.5 km walk in support of non-profit senior’s organizations in Canada. Under the direction of the Blue Sea Foundation, Red Deer is hoping to have 20 teams sign up for this year’s event with all the locally pledged proceeds going to Bridges Community Living and The Golden Circle.

The Grand Parade will start with check in/registration and some treats from 10-11 a.m. at the Golden Circle followed by the 2.5 km walk and concluding at the Golden Circle with a BBQ lunch complete with live music to celebrate the first Grand Parade Walk.

For those that raise $150 or more individually, they will receive a beautiful Grand Parade t-shirt, but any money raised is more than appreciated. This is anticipated to be a great event for family and friends to get together for a great cause.

If you’re unable to register and take part in the Parade, monetary donations are also welcome.

Bridges Community Living would like to thank the following sponsors who have stepped up to help with this event: the Co-op, Culligan Water, Sysco, Olymel, Twilight Homes Foundation, Great West Communications, the Donut Mill, Sun Life Financial, Quest Signs and Decals, the Kinsmen Club of Red Deer and St. John’s Ambulance.
