The Red Deer Rebels fell short in their third pre-season game Friday evening with a 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge.

The Rebels have now completed three out of four exhibition games, with their first two losses against the Calgary Hitmen.

The first period had a slower start, with the Hurricanes Logan Wormald scoring his third goal of the pre-season on Rebels goaltender Rhett Stoesser at 9:41. Miguel Marques and Brayden Edwards made the assists, putting Lethbridge in the lead 1-0.

After 30 minutes of play, the Rebels outshot the Hurricanes 9-5.

In the second, the Rebels struck early with Blake Gustafson scoring at 1:24 on netminder Jared Picklyk. Assisted by Hunter Mayo and Kalan Lind, the game was now tied 1-1.

Lethbridge regained their lead, however, at 5:32 with a goal by Miguel Marques and help from Logan Wormald. It would later prove to be the game-winner and put Lethbridge in the lead 2-1.

Shortly after, the Hurricanes’ Jhett Jones scored a back-to-back goal at 7:57. Assisted by Nolan Bentham and Logan McCutcheon, the score was now 3-1 in the Hurricanes favor.

Red Deer again outshot Lethbridge in the second period 9-6 for a two-period total of 18-11.

The final period proved less eventful for both teams, except a few missed power play opportunities. The Rebels would pull goaltender Rhett Stoesser at 18:27 but to no avail. The final score remained 3-1 for the Hurricanes.

Red Deer had the edge in shots on goal in the third period as well, outshooting the Hurricanes 12-9 for a three-period total of 30-20.

No teams were able to capitalize on their man advantage opportunities with the Rebels going 0/2 and the Hurricanes 0/4 on power plays.

The Hurricanes also swept all three stars with Miguel Marques earning third with his one goal and assist this game. Logan Wormald was given the second star for his similar goal and assist. Goaltender Jared Picklyk was awarded the first star for 29 saves on 30 shots for a .966 save percentage.

The final exhibition game for the Rebels will take place Saturday, September 17, against the Hurricanes at the Peavey Mart Centrium with the broadcast live on 106.7 REWIND Radio at 7 p.m.
