Rebels This Week: September 12 Edition

PRESEASON PLAY UNDERWAY!

The 2022 WHL Preseason is underway with the Rebels playing two games this past weekend versus the Calgary Hitmen.

On Friday (Sept 9) the Rebels travelled to the T’suut Ina Nation [soo-TIN-uh] and the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex where they fell to the Hitmen by a score of 6-3. A veteran Calgary lineup scored three times on the power play in their victory. Hunter Mayo, Jhett Larson and Kalan Lind scored for the Rebels while Kyle Kelsey and Chase Wutzke each saw time between the pipes.

Saturday at the Peavey Mart Centrium, the Hitmen defeated the Rebels 4-2. Mathew Gard and Arjun Bawa scored for the Rebels while newly signed netminder Rhett Stoesser went the distance in net.

The Rebels and Lethbridge Hurricanes wrap up preseason play with a home and home series this coming weekend – Friday (Sept. 16) in Lethbridge and Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Both games start at 7 p.m.

PLENTY OF PLAYER SIGNINGS

The Rebels were busy last week agreeing to terms with a number of prospects. This includes highly touted first-round U.S. Priority Draft pick Jeramiah Roberts. The Colorado native is eligible to play with the Rebels starting in 2023-24. Also signing with the Rebels last week were forward Escalus Burlock and goaltender Rhett Stoesser.

GOIN’ CAMPING

Several Rebels players are away this week attending camps with NHL clubs. This includes Jayden Grubbe – New York Rangers (Drafted 2021), Ben King – Anaheim Ducks (Drafted 2022), Mats Lindgren – Buffalo Sabres (Drafted 2022), Christoffer Sedoff – Calgary Flames (Invitee), Jace Weir – Vegas Golden Knights (Invitee).

HOME OPENER

Regular Season play kicks off for the Rebels on Friday, Sept. 23 when they visit the Edmonton Oil Kings (7 p.m.). The Rebels will then host the Oil Kings for the home opener at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
