Condolences for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from The City of Red Deer
Today, Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed at the age of 96 years old.
The City of Red Deer would like to extend its most sincere condolences to the Royal Family. The flags at City Hall will be at half mast in recognition of her passing.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952 following her father, King George VI’s death. She ruled for nearly 70 years, making her the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, as well as the longest-serving female head of state in history.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came to Red Deer on Thursday, June 28, 1990 for the opening of the new $1.6 million Pediatrics Ward in the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. She unveiled a plaque and also presented the first Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship in neonatology and pediatrics ($1,000) to Judy Raabis, then clinical coordinator at the pediatric unit. This scholarship is awarded annually to this day. The tour was capped off by a banquet in the Capri Centre ballroom hosted by Premier Don Getty.
