Energy Efficiency Rebate Pilot Program

Red Deerians can receive energy rebate with new City program

Sep 7, 2022 | 3:26 PM

The City of Red Deer has launched a new pilot program that may help residents save on their energy bills.

Officials say the Energy Efficiency Rebate Pilot Program was developed to help Red Deerians decrease energy consumption and support them to improve energy efficiency in their homes.

Residents who purchase and install a smart thermostat or a high efficiency dishwasher can apply for a rebate through the program.

The program offers a $50 rebate to those who replace their home thermostat with a smart thermostat and a $100 rebate to those who replace their low efficiency dishwasher with a high efficiency model.

“There are environmental and financial benefits to using smart thermostats and high efficiency dishwashers, in addition to improving home comfort,” said Phil Boehme, Community Development Coordinator. “Participants could see a reduction in energy use of up to 12 per cent and a reduction in water use of up to 30 per cent, as well as a decrease of the non-fixed portion of their energy bills. Saving energy is one way to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.”

More information and online rebate application forms are available at the City’s website.

Rebates are available to Red Deer residents only, and a maximum of one of each type of rebate is available per utility account. The deadline for applications for the rebate program is December 31, 2022.
