Alberta held fourth place at the 2022 Canada Summer Games on Sunday with a total of 111 medals and received the Centennial Cup for the most improved team.

With 35 Gold medals, 33 Silver and 43 Bronze, the Swimming and Athletics categories led the team with 42 and 33 medals respectively.

The Centennial Cup is presented to the province showing the greatest improvement in the final standings in comparison to the previous seasonal Canada Games. Alberta also won this award at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

On Saturday, Sylvan Lake golfer Logan Graf finished in fourth place in the men’s individual golf event. With a new low single-round score during the week, he also helped carry his team to a fourth-place finish.

Day 15 brought Red Deer’s Eric Lutz to take home Gold in Athletics for the men’s 800m. With his teammates Justin Rose (Edmonton), Caiden Schultz (Calgary) and Kai Spierenberg (Calgary), Alberta also received Silver in the Athletics Men’s 4x400m Relay.

On the final day of the Games, Alberta added another five medals to the haul.

Local athletes from central Alberta made numerous contributions to the province’s medal standing.

From Red Deer, Tate Howell brought home Silver with his team in volleyball. Eric Lutz won three-for-three in Athletics with Gold for Men’s 800m and 1500m and Silver in the Men’s 4x400m Relay.

In swimming, Cooper Waddle earned Bronze in the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay. Wesley Wilks also earned Bronze in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke Special Olympics.
