Environment Canada is releasing more information about a tornado that hit an area in southwestern Alberta last week.

In an update posted Sunday night, the weather forecaster says they received the first report of a funnel cloud/tornado near Bergen, Alberta around 2:32 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Bergen is located approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

The tornado moved east as Environment Canada’s last report came in around 3:10 pm outside the nearby community of Shantz.

While RCMP had previously reported that nine homes were damaged as a result of the tornado, Environment Canada now says four houses and four trees were hit.
