Penhold to host Hlinka Gretzky Cup pre-tournament game

The town of Penhold will host a pre-tournament game in the upcoming Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which is being played entirely in Red Deer.

The Germans and Swiss will face off against each other on Friday, July 29, at 6 p.m. from the Penhold Regional Multiplex.

“We have been wanting to host another Hockey Canada event since 2018 when we hosted the Finland vs. Sweden game during the last Hlinka Gretzky Cup tournament in Red Deer,” says Mayor Mike Yargeau. “We invite everyone to come enjoy an affordable night with their family and friends in Penhold while watching some great hockey.”

Tickets for the pre-tournament game in Penhold go on sale July 6 on Eventbrite, at a cost of $15/ticket. Family packs of four are also available for $50.

There will also be a tailgate party in the Multiplex parking lot starting at 4:30 p.m. For just $10/vehicle, hockey fans can come early and enjoy live music, food vendors and get their faces painted to show which team they will be cheering for the during the game.

The main tournament runs July 31 to August 6 at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
