Lacombe’s McKinlay goes wire-to-wire at 2022 Alberta Mens Amateur

Jun 30, 2022 | 8:49 PM

Lacombe golfer Brady McKinlay, a member at Lacombe Golf & Country Club, had little trouble with the competition at this week’s Alberta Mens Amateur Championship, going wire-to-wire to win by five strokes.

Taking place at The Ranch Golf and Country Club in Acheson, Alberta, the tournament was won by the Utah Valley University athlete who shot rounds of 66-66-70 (-11).

“This win is number one ever,” McKinlay said to Alberta Golf following his triumph. “Even this summer, the finishes I’ve had have been great, and to cap off this three-week stretch with a win is more than I can ask for. Hopefully there’s more of these.”

In McKinlay’s final round, he finished with five birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.

McKinlay, along with Neil Thomas (Edmonton) and Dustin Yeager (Calgary), will comprise the interprovincial team at the Canadian Mens Amateur Championship this August at Point Grey Golf and Country Club in Vancouver.

Thomas (-6) finished second this week behind McKinlay, with Yeager (-4) finishing third.
