Jun 23, 2022 | 2:23 PM

A trial date has been set for a man accused of multiple armed robberies and other firearms offences in Maskwacis earlier this year.

Wyatt Omeasoo, 24, of the Ermineskin Cree Nation, is scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Aug. 8, 2022.

Omeasoo is charged with the following:

  • Robbery with a firearm (X2)
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Resisting arrest
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm

It was about 11 a.m. on March 24, 2022 when members of Maskwacis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of an armed robbery in the Samson Townsite.

Police say they’d been told the driver of a vehicle was robbed at gunpoint, and his wallet was stolen.

The suspect is said to have then fled before police could arrive, however a description was provided to police.

While investigating that robbery, police were sent to a local shopping centre for a second armed robbery where a cell phone was allegedly stolen.

Another description, matching the first one, was given to police.

Police then made patrols in the area, locating the suspect, who attempted to flee on foot. Shortly thereafter, police took the suspect into custody, and recovered a firearm.

Police say no one was harmed in either incident.
