City assessing areas hit by localized flooding

Statement from The City of Red Deer:

We continue to assess and evaluate the impact of yesterday’s heavy rainfall. Several neighbourhoods across the city were affected by localized flooding.

If you experienced damage to your property, contact your insurance company immediately. They can guide you through the process for cleanup and restoration, and filing a claim.

If you are experiencing active flooding today (i.e., water has not receded or new flooding has occurred), please call 403-342-8750.

All roads are open, with the exception of 43 Street between 48 Ave and 49 Ave. All trails are open, with the exception of the shale trail between Spruce Drive and Ross St. If you come across an area with standing water, please find alternate trail routes and report to www.reddeer.ca/ReportAProblem.

Residents may notice an increased amount of water in storm ponds. These are an important mechanism in helping to collect excess water from the system and they will drain over time. Because of changing water levels and poor water quality, stormwater ponds are not for recreation. Swimming, wading and boating of any type is dangerous and not allowed.

Red Deer County is re-opening A-Soo-Wuh-Um Park and the Joffre Bridge Day Use Area for tomorrow, June 25, 2022. Both parks will be accessible to the public in the morning: A-Soo-Wuh-Um Park will re-open at 8 a.m. and the Joffre Bridge Day Use Area will re-open at 9 a.m.

Localized flooding is happening on some city of Red Deer streets due to heavy rainfall.

Motorists are advised that the following streets and intersections are currently closed and traffic is being re-routed:

• Taylor Drive between 19 Street and 22 Street
• Gaetz and 19 Street
• Molly Bannister Road to Bremner Avenue
