Treehouse Youth Theatre set to open third annual One-Act Festival

Jun 8, 2022 | 4:14 PM

Treehouse Youth Theatre presents its One-Act Festival, from June 9-18, at the Red Deer Memorial Centre’s Nickel Studio.

The third annual event is put together entirely by participants, using what’s called the Total Theatre approach.

“Participants wrote two one-act plays, with the assistance of Artistic Director Albertus Koett and Associate Artistic Director Nicole Leal. Additionally, a movement piece was created for the festival, directed/written by one of our participants, Ryan Walsh,” a media release notes.

“Our festival will also feature improvisation, the foundations of which were taught to us by Improv Jelly, a local improv and sketch comedy troupe. The festival will feature a one-act featuring our 9-12-year-old performers, called Not Again!, and a one-act currently called Backstage Play, which was created by our 13-17-year-old participants.”

This is also the first in-person edition of the festival, with the first two years taking place virtually due to the pandemic.

The festival is sponsored in part by The City of Red Deer, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Central Alberta Theatre.
