Mustard Seed hosting inaugural golf tournament this August

The Mustard Seed is launching a new major fundraiser this summer, with its inaugural Mustard Seed Classic golf tournament taking place in Red Deer on August 22.

From the event, 100 per cent of proceeds will support the organization’s Red Deer school lunch program.

The program delivers close to 500 lunches across 46 schools daily to children struggling with food insecurity.

The Mustard Seed is also partnering with Shaw Birdies for Kids meaning donations made at the tournament will be matched up to 50 per cent.

“Fundraisers like our golf tournament help us to generate much needed support for us to continue to reduce poverty in central Alberta. We have seen a huge increase in the demand for our services in the last three months,” says Marla Oliver, communications coordinator.

“Fundraisers like this allow us to meet these new needs, and to not have to say no to any hungry children. Currently, our School Lunch Program is 100 per cent donor-funded, so events like this are essential for the program to continue. With the rising cost of food and fuel it is getting harder to meet these needs.”

The program also provides complete turkey meal hampers at Thanksgiving and other events throughout the year.
