Jun 2, 2022 | 11:21 AM

The Red Deer Rebels have signed Carson Birnie, a forward drafted by the team in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

Birnie, a native of Arcola, SK, tallied 67 points in 29 games with the Regina Monarchs U15 AA in 2019-20, prior to being drafted by the Rebels.

In 2021-22 with the Estevan Bears U18 AAA squad, the 17-year-old netted 35 points and had 68 penalty minutes in 43 games played.

β€œCarson has continued to make positive strides in his development since being a late-round pick and we like the mindset he possesses as a player to continue trending that way,” says Rebels Associate General Manager Shaun Sutter. β€œWe believe his size, compete and skill set will allow him to be an effective two-way player in the WHL.”

Birnie, who is 6’0β€³, 164 lbs, and shoots left, was drafted by Red Deer 160th overall (8th round).
