Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis hears public opinion on Jackpot Casino relocation

May 10, 2022 | 2:08 PM

Red Deerians can voice their opinions directly to Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) on the potential relocation of the Jackpot Casino.

The City of Red Deer received a letter from the AGLC on April 12, informing of the application for the casino’s relocation from 4950 47 Avenue to 3310 50 Avenue (Cambridge Hotel).

As part of their application process, AGLC contacts the municipality to provide city council with the opportunity for input.

A previous council policy titled “Council Response to Gaming Applications” from 2002 outlines that, in dealing with cases brought forward by the AGLC:

  • The City Manager issue a news release and public advertisement informing the community about the proposed relocation of the Jackpot Casino. The release would advise the community to forward their views directly to the AGLC or their Provincial MLA.
  • No expression of support or non-support by council will be issued.

At Monday’s meeting, city council approved the following recommendations made by Interim City Manager Tara Lodewyk.

The resolution will be forwarded in a letter to AGLC by May 12, 2022.

The public advertisement will appear Friday, May 13, 2022.
