Two people have been charged after Sylvan Lake RCMP say investigation recently led them to, “a great deal,” of suspected stolen property.

In early April 2022, RCMP began investigating an alleged repeat property crime offender working out of the Sylvan Lake area.

On April 20, members executed a search warrant on a property on Woodlands Crescent in Sylvan Lake. As a result, they discovered the stolen property, including firearms and a moped.

RCMP believe the items are linked to at least six break-and-enters in the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake area. RCMP also located two stolen vehicles.

Charged are:

-Mitchell Leismeister, 37, of Sylvan Lake: 35 different offences including charges for property, weapons, and failing to comply with release conditions. Leismeister has been remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for May 3 at Red Deer Provincial Courthouse.

-Michelle Walker, 37, of Sylvan Lake: 12 different property-related offences. Walker has been remanded in custody with her next court appearance set for May 3 at Red Deer Provincial Courthouse.

“It is shocking how much crime one or two individuals can commit in a short amount of time,“ says Corporal William Hiscock of the RCMP CAD CRU Team. “Targeting these repeat offenders remains our primary focus for enforcement.”
