Maskwacis RCMP seeking information about April 25 shooting

May 3, 2022 | 1:53 PM

RCMP in Maskwacis are investigating after an alleged shooting sent one man to hospital.

It was around 1:30 p.m. on April 25, police say, when members were dispatched to an area on the Samson Cree Townsite, for a report of a male who’d been shot.

Police learned that a suspect had fled the area before their arrival. The victim was treated on scene and then taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was harmed.

RCMP are asking anyone who was in the Samson Townsite area on April 25, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., to report any suspicious persons or activity they may have seen. Doorbell or other surveillance cameras may be of particular help, they say.

“We believe there are people out there who have information about this shooting.” says Cst. Andrew Deme, Maskwacis RCMP. “Our detachment members are working to strengthen that relationship and trust with our community residents, and making it a safe place to live. We can do this by working together, either by speaking with an officer, calling the detachment, or reporting it anonymously to Crime Stoppers.”

If you have any information about the shooting, contact the Maskwacis RCMP at (780) 585-4600 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
