Peterman and partner Gallant knocked out of World Mixed Doubles Championship

Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant are out at the 2022 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship.

Taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, Peterman, of Red Deer and Gallant were playing in the playoff qualification game against Norway early Friday, Mountain Time.

The Canadians lost to Norway 6-5, with the latter scoring two in the final end for the victory.

“We’re happy with our performance through the week, but not our best game here today. It’s disappointing. We were hoping for a better result,” Peterman said.

Canada went 8-1 in the round robin, losing only to Scotland in their fourth match, before going on a five-game heater.

Norway lost later in the day to Switzerland, 8-7 in the semi-final. The Swiss will now face Scotland in the final, and Norway plays Germany for bronze on Saturday.

As for the Canadian duo who are to marry each other this June, it was a memorable curling season.

“It’s always an honour to represent Canada, and we’ve had the opportunity to do that a few times each. Obviously, there’s some disappointment now. But when we look back on the season, it probably might be one of the most memorable of our careers,” said Gallant, who is from St. John’s NFLD.

“It’s all perspective, and this loss is frustrating right now. But our intention is to get back to this position in the future and we’ll learn a lot from this event.”

It was a busy season for the two, who won the 2021 Tim Hortons Canadian Curling Trials with their men’s and women’s teams and represented Canada in their first Olympics together in Beijing. Gallant’s Team Gushue also won bronze for Canada at the event and then won the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier and earned silver at the men’s world championship.
