United Way launches Period Promise pilot project in Innisfail
United Way Central Alberta (UWCA) is expanding its ‘Period Promise’ into Innisfail.
The pilot project will include four dispensers for free menstrual products and enough products for the entire year in washrooms at the recreation centre and library.
The ‘Period Promise’ going to Innisfail is thanks to a $2,800 Innisfail Community Grant, plus another $600 from the Soroptimist International of Central Alberta. United Way is covering admin costs.
“Period poverty is a very real issue faced by many, preventing them from taking part in many activities as they normally would such as school, sports, work, and other activities,” says Chelsea O’Donoghue, UWCA donor relations manager. “This should not be the case and access to menstrual products should be like toilet paper.”
