Thanks to his improved health, Talbot Walton is returning to coach the RDP Queens Volleyball team.

“We are extremely grateful that Talbot’s health has steadily progressed, so that he can continue the proud legacy of the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball program in a role that he loves,” says Kristine Plastow, Red Deer Polytechnic Dean of Students.

“We would also like to express our gratitude to Interim Head Coach Chris Wandler for his hard work, dedication, and ability to guide the Queens throughout a very successful and memorable 2021/2022 season.”

Last season, Wandler led the Queens to a perfect 16-0 record for the first time since 1988/89.

Medals were won at both the ACAC (provincial) and CCAA (national) championships.

“I speak on behalf of Queens Volleyball – we are all very thankful for Chris’ contributions to our program’s excellence,” says Walton, who assumed an assistant coach role this season,” says the returning Walton, who served as an assistant coach under Wandler this year, despite his health troubles.

“This past year, winning an ACAC Championship and CCAA bronze medal demonstrated the level of elite coaching that Chris is capable of. I am so grateful to have him as a friend and coaching peer.”

Playoffs included, the Queens went 22-1 this season, winning their 20th ACAC title.

Wandler, who guided them to that output, will remain on as an assistant coach.

Meantime, recruitment is underway for the 2022/23 season with eight student-athletes projected to graduate, transfer or move on.
