Investigation Continues

No one hurt in local business fire

Apr 3, 2022 | 3:13 PM

Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire at a Red Deer business over the weekend.

According to assistant fire marshal Shane Dussault, crews with Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES) were alerted around 10:37 p.m. on Friday, April 1, by the property owner of Body Basics at 5569 47 Street in the Cronquist Business Park, of a blaze at their business.

Upon arrival, Dussault says crews found flames on the first floor of the two story building, along with smoke billowing from the roof.

He says the fire appears to have started in the reception area near the front of the building, although it is not considered suspicious.

Dussault says the building did, however, sustain significant smoke damage throughout the interior, in addition to fire and water damage near the front entrance, as well as the roof. There was no damage to any neighbouring structures.

No one was inside the building when the fire occurred, adds Dussault, and there were no injuries to any firefighters.

He says crews remained on scene into Saturday morning, April 2, with investigators still on site as of Sunday, April 3.
