Weapons incident in Riverside Meadows just two men ‘making funny videos’: police

Mar 31, 2022 | 1:47 PM

Red Deer RCMP say an incident this week in Riverside Meadows is cause for a couple reminders.

It was shortly before 6:30 p.m. on March 30 when RCMP received a report of a male chasing another male with a weapon in Riverside Meadows.

Members attended and found two males sitting together, matching the descriptions they’d been given.

When approached, the men explained they were making funny videos and that there’d been no intention to harm one another. RCMP say the officers explained that the incident had caused concern for nearby residents and that the weapon would be seized.

When one of the men refused to comply, one of the officers removed their Conducted Energy Weapon (taser) and repeated his command.

The man then dropped the weapon and was placed under arrest. Police released him without charge after issuing a warning. The weapon was later disposed of by police.

“We would like to warn the community that information being shared online as to the nature of this call and its outcome is misleading,” says S/Sgt. Jon England. “(We) encourage the public to use caution when reading information on social media.”

Red Deer RCMP thank the community for reporting the suspicious activity and encourage citizens to continue doing so.

“Regardless of the outcome, we appreciate that the public took the matter seriously and called it in,” says England.
