Federal emissions reduction plan still undercounts forestry, environmentalists say

Environmentalists say the new federal emissions reduction plan continues to undercount emissions from forestry.

The Liberal government released yesterday its pathway on how Canada can become carbon-neutral by 2050.

But research from the group Nature Canada suggests that plan doesn’t ensure the forestry industry is doing enough to meet that goal.

Spokesman Michael Polanyi says the way Canada accounts for emissions from wildfire and forestry undercounts them by 80 megatonnes a year, more than is emitted by the oilsands.
