Two people are facing charges after RCMP seized a loaded gun and ammunition near a Bashaw residence this week.

On March 22, Bashaw RCMP with the help of the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Steller RCMP arrested a man described as a repeat offender.

Jesse James Lyman Macdonald, according to Mounties, was wanted on multiple warrants.

Police say Macdonald was located behind a residence on 51 St in Bashaw interacting with a woman and a vehicle. As officers approached, Macdonald attempted to flee on foot, however, he was quickly located and arrested.

The woman identified as Jody Lil Sarasin and was arrested for obstruction.

Incidental to arrest, RCMP conducted a search of a bag and a vehicle. As a result of the search RCMP located a loaded hand gun and over 50 rounds of ammunition.

Jesse James Lyman Macdonald, 32, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, and resist arrest.

Macdonald was remanded for court on March 24, 2022 at Red Deer provincial court.

Additionally, RCMP have charged Jody Lill Sarasin, 30, of no fixed address, with two counts of careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, fail to comply with a release order, and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

Sarasin was released from custody to appear in court on May 12, 2022 in Stettler provincial court.
